Teacher Spotlight – Gretchen Finley
Say hello to Gretchen Finley, a middle school teacher at the Center Academy Palm Harbor campus. She hails from Long Island, New York and has been teaching for 15 years.
Mrs. Finley sought out Center Academy as her school of choice because it does not adhere to the “one size fits all” curriculum, often found in public schools. “Smaller class sizes allow more one-to-one attention and tutoring,” she said. “Center Academy embraces the whole child and will adjust the curriculum as many times as necessary to suit the student’s needs and ensure his or her success.”
The favorite part of her job are the kids! “They are a grounding force and will call you out whenever they sense you are not being authentic.”
Mrs. Finley has three grown children and three grandchildren. When she’s not teaching, you might find her gardening, writing or singing. As a matter of fact, she’s been singing rock ‘n roll for 40 years! And speaking of singing, she loves Aretha Franklin because she came from very humble roots and remained so, even after enormous success.
The secret to Mrs. Finley’s success is “Lighten up, let go, let God. We often take ourselves too seriously. Embrace the patience of a saint and the creativity of a child.”
Thank you so much, Mrs. Finley, for sharing yourself with us, and congratulations on being selected for Center Academy’s Teacher Spotlight!
