Center Academy began in 1968 with the vision of its founder, Dr. Mack Hicks, who saw the need for a specialized, full-day school for students who were falling through the cracks in traditional schools.
Dr. Hicks has been a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Director of Assessment and Research for Center Academy since 1988. He has published in Neuropsychology and Cognition, the Southern Medical Journal, and the Journal of Clinical and Consulting Psychology. Dr. Hicks has been the Director of the Florida and England Developmental Center programs and in 2013 was named a Distinguished Psychologist by the Florida Psychological Association.
