Center Academy began in 1968 with the vision of its founder, Dr. Mack Hicks, who saw the need for a specialized, full-day school for students who were falling through the cracks in traditional schools.
Mrs. Ellen Mattheus completed her undergraduate work in education at Adelphi University, New York. She received her Master’s Degree from Concordia University, Irvine, California in Curriculum and Instruction, along with a theological endorsement. She has served in the field of education for over 20 years within public and private schools in several capacities: teacher, curriculum resource, reading interventionist, professional development coordinator, instructional coach, director and principal. She also holds Florida endorsements in Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages.
